Frequently Asked Questions

What are your qualifications, certifications and credentials?

All interventionists hold at least a bachelor's degree, have several years of experience in education and receive ongoing multi-sensory structured literacy training.

How will you get a sense of my child's needs?

If tutoring is the right fit, we will meet with your child during the first session to administer an intake assessment. The assessment is comprehensive and will give us a good idea of exactly where your child is at. Between this session and the information you provide at the consultation, we will have a solid sense of your child's needs. We will start planning for your child's first official session and we can begin our journey to success!

what is your teaching philosophy?

Teaching with empathy, integrity, and maintaining high expectations is what we aim for when working with students. Cultivating confidence is crucial to your child's success. We strive to have a careful balance of love and understanding while also being a champion for your child, holding them to a high standard, and giving them the tools necessary to be successful.

What can parents do to support the process?

First and foremost, it is so important that parents trust the process. If you ever have any questions, we are always happy to chat! Using the Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory approach, we really break concepts down so that your child has a deep understanding and the information sticks! This means that you will see results, but you will need to be patient. Bringing your child to sessions on time and making sure you schedule makeups for canceled sessions is important too. You will learn more about this policy in the handbook.

how will WE communicate with parents and how often?

Our tutoring service follows an academic calendar by semester. There are two semesters within our academic tutoring year. You can expect two detailed progress reports per the academic year and you will have access to your child's interventionist for 10 minutes after each session. Beyond that, we are available via email and would be happy to set up a phone call or an in-person chat if you have additional questions and/or concerns. It is our goal to keep you in the loop about what your child is doing during our sessions and the progress that your student is making.

do WE have references you can speak with?

Absolutely! We will happily provide references upon request.

how do WE measure progress?

Progress is monitored at each and every session. You will receive progress reports so that you know how your child is doing.

What is your availability?

Availability will vary depending on the tutoring and lesson planning schedule. For traditional education students, we will generally have time slots available Monday-Thursday from 3:30-7:30. For homeschool students, our availability will vary during the day and we can work to come up with a time that works for everyone.

what is the session cost?

Your rate will depend upon which tutoring schedule you choose. This is something that we will discuss in detail at our first consultation. You can choose to pay month to month or week to week.

where will the tutoring sessions take place?

Sessions take place either at the Saint Clair Shores office or virtually via Zoom.

how long is each tutoring session?

Each tutoring session is considered a "therapy" session. This means that there will be 50 minutes of one-on-one individualized instruction leaving 10 minutes at the end for any updates on your child's progress and questions that you may have.

what kind of results can i expect to see?

Please keep in mind that this is not a quick fix process. However, the results you can expect are pretty amazing! Over time, you will see your child's confidence increase.

what is your cancelation/makeup policy?

This is covered in the handbook that you will receive during the initial consultation.

can i sit in on my child's tutoring session?

We do not allow parents to sit in during the session. We have found that when we have allowed this, the child can sometimes become distracted. If you would like to monitor the session, we do have a solution for this and it is something we can discuss at your consultation. You are also welcome to wait in the lobby during the session, please be mindful of the surrounding offices.
